What Works for Them--a sharing by 2003/2004 AA(T) recipients
36 BA & 2 TLC colleagues turned up at this afternoon's session to hear what Matthew and Chai Fang had to share on what works for them in class.
Matthew's philosophy is best summed up by this message on his fridge magnet:
Matthew's philosophy is best summed up by this message on his fridge magnet:
"Teaching is a work of heart"
He shared with us his desire to help his students "fish for themselves" and his beliefs on teaching and his strategies which are best represented by the accronyms for:
LEARN
TEACH
Chai Fang's philophy is reflected in the following quotes from Legend (no prizes for guessing who's Legend):-
"I am not a teacher but a learner in this journey"
"I am here to make that difference, even if it is only one"
"You have the gift of enthusiasm, use it wisely"
"Do unto others what one wants others to do unto you"
"A stagnant mind brings about a walking corpse"
She also shared with us some of the techniques (games such as treasure hunt, hide & seek, musical ball, hangman, puzzles, communication tools such as weblogs, sms, podcast etc) she uses and the interesting analogies (eg. BGR) she brings up to demonstrate accounting concepts.
I think all of us were inspired, not only by their enthusiasm, but more so by their sharing which was evidently from their hearts.
And now, as Matthew puts it so aptly, it's back to our hard work and heart work.
